4 Common Mattress Sizes

One of the most common questions we get when a customer comes in looking for a mattress is the size. Most people know the basics such as twin, queen and king but what does that really mean? There are a few questions you should ask yourself when selecting which size mattress.

  • How happy are you with your current sleeping space?
  • Is the room big enough for a larger mattress?
  • Let’s take a closer look at each size
Twin: The average measurements of a twin mattress is W 39” x L 74” which is a great size for kids, small rooms or spaces and for a single adult. If you need a little bit longer mattress look for a Twin XL which has the same width but is 6” longer.

Full or Double: is a great size for growing kids, they offer 16” more width while keeping the length the same 74”. While a great size for growing kids or even an adult, if they are much over 5’6” it might be a little tight and a Queen size may work better.

Queen: Is the most popular and common size, it measures 60” x 80” and can accommodate two adults. The mattress fits in most rooms and is a great choice for couples who like to sleep a little closer or singles that like to sprawl out.

King : If your room can fit it and you like plenty of space to sprawl out, you should look at a King. King size dimensions are 76”x80” and are the widest size when it comes to the standard retail mattresses. If you want a little more length the Cal King is 4” longer but is also 4” narrower than a standard king mattress.
