Gas Ranges! Everyone Is Going Wild For Gas Ranges!

According to consumer search volume index, the most searched term in appliances over the summer was: “Gas Ranges.” The trend is usually driven by home refrigerators and chest freezers? Here at Appliance Factory & Mattress Kingdom we’re curious thinkers; focused on understanding and meeting (often exceeding) the needs of the Colorado market. Colorado is our home, so we like to make sure we are here to be your best resource for all your appliance needs.

We did extensive research and questioned real people in our 16 Appliance Factory & Mattress Kingdom locations. We sorted through the data and we arrived with two main concerns and general questions local Coloradans like you had about gas ranges. Turns out the majority of people shopping for new ranges rather gas or electric are majorly concerned with operating costs and performance. Here’s your simple guide to understanding these concerns

Operating Costs

Which is more expensive to own and operate over the lifetime of the range?

This was the number one question and concern that we uncovered, and unfortunately, there is not a lot of localized concrete data to assist you in research as a consumer. Most consumers these days start their appliance shopping online, they read reviews from credible sources and learn about features that will benefit them. We’ve found out that the average consumer that walks into one of our stores is equipped with a ton of useful appliance knowledge. You walk in knowing the pricing in the market; you’ve noticed that generally gas ranges are on average $175 to $360 more than electric ranges. The rational consumer that you are says it just makes sense to save the upfront money and go with an electric range.
This is why we receive this question so often, “Is a gas range or electric range more expensive to own and operate over the lifetime of the appliance.”
It’s nearly impossible to answer this question on a general basis. However, it is a fact in Metropolitan Denver gas rates are significantly less than electric rates: over 60% less! (Link Xcel Rates here

Here’s the takeaway: Focus on usage. How often are you cooking: two to three meals a day, or like me maybe a few a week. If you’re cooking a lot chances are you're also concerned with the next most popular question about the performance of gas ranges.

Performance

If you’re the kind of person that just wants a straight answer, the answer is simple. The performance of “standard” electric ranges cannot match that of a gas range. Period. If you’re looking for the best overall performance walk into one of our 16 local Appliance Factory & Mattress Kingdom stores and tell the sales associate, “Take me directly to gas stoves, I’m interested in the best performance.” Chances are they’ll also educate you on a new electric technology called “Induction” (Which is new electromagnetic technology that used alternating currents to magnetize the pot or pan to create heat).

If you are actually interested in knowing why Gas ranges perform better than “standard” electric ranges the answer is in the flame. Okay cheesy lines aside, gas ranges/stoves respond nearly instantly giving you the most precise control of the heating source. Meaning when you turn the dial on your range from High to Low the heat actually goes to low, there’s no residual heat. Electric stoves are just not capable of responding immediately to adjusting the temperature. No wonder you’re burning all your grilled cheese sandwiches!

While doing appliance research on the internet is a great place to start, there’s nothing better than talking to experts in the industry. Our sales associates are trained extensively in all things appliances, they may not know a ton about hammers, and nails or paint finishes, but they will be able to answer every little question you have about this complex world of appliance shopping.

It’s a job requirement to love appliances here at Appliance Factory &Mattress Kingdom; so come in today and we can chat about what we literally dream about!
