High Efficiency Top-load Washers vs Front-load Washers

Top-load Washers
To get the highest efficiency, you need to use less detergent, less water, and less hot water. The washer will spin the cloths fast making clothes go up. This is not the most efficient way to wash your laundry.

Front-load Washers
Because the drum sits on the side, there is less water need to wash clothes. Clothes spin more evenly making sure everything gets wet. Because there is less need for water, you use concentrated detergent as your soap.

Kiss Ironing Goodbye with These 5 Great Laundry Tips

Hate to iron clothes? You’re not alone! Pressing blouses, shirts and slacks can be a very tedious, time-consuming process, but you don’t want to be a wrinkled mess at work and it can cost a fortune to have the dry cleaners handle it! What to do? Luckily, we have some tips that can take the wrinkles out of clothes without the assistance of an iron, so you can look great without having to spend a lot of time dealing with them. Now you can enjoy wrinkle-free clothes without the hassle of ironing- everybody wins!

Set a Timer

It can be tempting to load clothes into the dryer, walk away, and forget about it until it’s time to fold. But this method can make clothing even more wrinkled, especially if you’re doing a large load. Set a timer for 20 minutes. When it goes off, pull out all the items you normally would need to iron, and lay them flat to continue drying, or hang them on a drying rack in your laundry room. They’ll be naturally wrinkle-free when you’re done! If you have a connected appliance, you can sink your dryer time to your phone and either stop it at any time or have the alarm go off when your clothes are ready. 

Use Dryer Sheets

Besides the added bonus of making your laundry smell fantastic, dryer sheets can make clothes come out of the dryer less wrinkled by softening the fabric. Nothing could be easier than throwing a dryer sheet into the laundry, and it is a good first step to an ironing-free lifestyle. Release the Wrinkles!

Know When to Fold ‘Em

By folding the laundry the second it comes out of the dryer, you can smooth any wrinkles that would have needed to be ironed out. Bonus: you get to touch nice, warm clothes fresh out of the dryer!

Hang Up

No matter how careful you are with your clothing when you take it out of the dryer, it can all be for nothing if you don’t hang things up as soon as your laundry is done. Let gravity work for you by hanging your items on a hanger to naturally release the wrinkles. This will make your garment look great for a very small amount of work!

Cashmere

 There’s nothing like the soft, cozy luxury of a cashmere sweater. But it is an extremely delicate and high-maintenance (not to mention expensive!) fabric that it’s important to know how to take care of your cashmere and keep it looking as beautiful as the day you bought it.

What to remember:

• Always wash by hand, using baby shampoo or Woolite, and try not to wash more than twice in a season.
• Keep your wet cashmere sweater in a lump if you pick it up- don’t ever hold it by the shoulders or spread it onto a drying rack or it will stretch out of shape.
• Use a salad spinner to dry your cashmere, or lay flat to dry and absorb excess water by pressing a lint-free towel on top.
• If you dry clean your cashmere, remove it from the protective plastic wrap as soon as possible, and keep it wrapped in tissue paper when storing it.

Wool

A popular winter fabric for its warmth and durability, wool is a favorite for sweaters, hats and coats. Follow these simple steps to keep your wool looking its best.

What to remember:

• Invest in a suede brush for your wool coat to get excess dirt and lint off the surface without having to clean it too often.
• Wood hangers are best for wool coats so the weight of them doesn’t accidentally stretch the shoulders out of shape.
• Let your wool coat breathe, and avoid hanging it in an over-full closet.
• It’s OK to use the delicate cycle on your washing machine to wash your wool sweaters, but never toss your wool items in the dryer. Instead, gently squeeze to release excess water and lay flat to dry.

Down

 A cuddly way to stay warm this winter, down jackets and vests are a favorite among skiers and outdoor enthusiasts. Here’s what you need to know about caring for your down-filled garments.

What to remember:

• It’s best to use a front-loading washing machine for your down coats and vests, as a top-loading machine can actually damage the garment.
• Use as little detergent as possible, as too much soap can make the down-filled item less fluffy. You can even run it through a second, soap-free wash cycle to make sure all the detergent is really out of it.
• You can put down-filled items in the dryer on a standard, low heat cycle. Toss in a few tennis balls to keep the down from clumping.
